Learning goal: By the end of this module, learners will understand that racial capitalism is not only about individual prejudice, but also about systems, rules and institutions that create racial inequality.
You may already know how racism affects people’s experiences and opportunities. This module looks at how racism can also be connected to economic systems. Racial capitalism is the idea that capitalism has often grown through racial inequality, including unequal access to labour, land, housing, safety and wealth.
This lesson is designed for teens and young adults who are learning how race, racism and antiracism connect to everyday life. By the end, you should be able to explain racial capitalism in your own words, identify real-world examples and reflect on how systems can be changed.
